Yet we still do not fully understand where it came from. Was it introduced from outside, or did it grow out of local Neolithic traditions?linebreaklinebreakThis talk begins with a brief overview of early pottery across Southwest Asia. It examines the earliest pottery-producing sites in the Northern Levant, the Euphrates, the Balikh and Khabur valleys, and the Upper Tigris. It then turns to neighbouring regions, including the Southern Levant, the Caucasus, and the Zagros.linebreaklinebreakThe main focus is Sumaki Höyük in the Upper Tigris Basin. The site has a long Neolithic sequence spanning most of the 7th millennium BCE. This allows the tracking of pottery production from its earliest appearance to the arrival of plant-tempered Proto-Hassuna wares.linebreaklinebreakThis talk presents the pottery of Sumaki Höyük and places it within the broader context of Upper Mesopotamia and the Northern Levant. It examines how pottery production emerged in the region and evolved over the 7th millennium BCE.linebreaklinebreakTo listen to the lecture, please follow this zoom link:linebreakJoin Zoom Meetinglinebreakhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/87080232127linebreakMeeting ID: 870 8023 2127linebreakPasscode: 183712linebreaklinebreakThe lecture will be recorded and posted on the ARWA dedicated channel a few days later:linebreaklinebreakhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCToebiQ52IVrZXGQEjtMJmA/playlistslinebreaklinebreak--- linebreak
